Dillon and Gilbert arrived in their gorgeous new home last Monday and have very much made themselves at home!
The three year old donkeys made friends while in the Nursery Unit at The Donkey Sanctuary, and have been together ever since. The Donkey Sanctuary does have a no breeding policy so any foals born are born to mares who were already in foal when they were taken in or rescued.
Dillon and Gilbert are friendly and playful and their new foster parents adore them, indeed who could resist!
They are being very sensible and taking the first few weeks slowly, allowing the donkeys to take their time settling down and grow in confidence. Julia spends a lot of time sitting in the field and yard with them and letting them come up and join her.
The first few weeks are very important in a new home, ensuring not to rush the donkeys with routine treatments or training until they are sure of their dynamics and territory; these two are well on the way to achieving this.
Their new motto is "why bother with grass when you can have roses” ....classy donkeys!
