Hi everyone, my name is Gemma Thickett. I’m a Lead Teaching Assistant in a special needs school in Barnsley. I’m also running the London Marathon next year to support The Donkey Sanctuary.
I only started running in September 2013 when I joined a beginners running club in my local area and in June I ran my first half marathon in Wakefield. I am so happy to have been chosen to run the London Marathon for The Donkey Sanctuary. I always said if I was going to do something so crazy I was going to do it for an amazing charity which is close to my heart. My family and I have always loved donkeys and I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to support The Donkey Sanctuary’s amazing work ensuring there is a loving and caring environment for these beautiful animals to live in.
This is my first marathon so if I’m honest I am really nervous but have started my training plans and going to do all that I can to make sure that I am ready for the day. I have also started arranging a few fundraising events to raise as much money as possible such as a drag show night and coffee mornings.
Here I am pictured with Ripple who is a lovely donkey at The Donkey Sanctuary's assisted therapy centre in Leeds. Did you know you can adopt him?
