This is one of our donkeys called Hamish who is one of our resident donkeys here at Trow Farm. He has found a very clever trick to supplement his diet by reaching up to eat the hazel leaves in the hedge bordering the paddock.
Donkeys love eating hazel and sometimes the grooms will pick it for them for a treat, or if they are feeling a bit poorly, it is quite often the only thing that the donkeys will want to eat.
They love picking through hedgerows to find any tasty goodies that might be on offer. Donkeys generally only eat the bits that they can reach but as you can see from this little video clip Hamish has found a way to go over and above this.
Hamish lives in a group of young male donkeys and they are very inquisitive, as you can see from the video. They find anything new very interesting and will play with it like a puppy.
Wheelbarrows are also lots of fun and we often find when we're mucking out the fields that the minute we turn our backs the donkeys are checking the wheelbarrow out. Sometimes they manage to knock them over... usually when full of course!
You can also watch two donkeys, Brooke and Hamish's friend Winston, checking out our wheelbarrow while Hamish is reaching new heights behind them.
Enjoy and share with your friends.
