We thought you would like to meet our oldest donkey... Say hello to Tessa who is one of our resident donkeys living at Trow Farm, which is just across the road from the main Sanctuary here in Devon.
She is a lovely old lady and has reached the grand old age of 48! Not bad considering the average age a donkey is euthanased or dies here at the Sanctuary is just over 31 years of age.
Tessa came into our care 28 years ago. Her yellow collar not only shows her name, but a unique number which each donkey is given to help us identify them.
Since Tessa's arrival a staggering 10,187 donkeys and mules have come into the Sanctuary from the time she joined us in 1985 - all given sanctuary for life.
Tessa is a real dear and knows exactly what she likes. Like most ladies, she puts on a little extra weight every now and again, so isn't really allowed any extra feed. She is so indignant about this and brays so loud every morning when the other donkeys are being fed.
She adores being groomed and queues up repeatedly even if she has been brushed two or three times.
We love her very much xx
