This week, it’s all about hay! The weather has been surprisingly good, giving us ideal conditions for us to cut the hay and make what we call quad bales (these are approximately 2ft by 6ft) which will be stored in our hay barn ready for the winter months.
Whilst we still have to buy straw and hard feed for donkeys requiring a supplementary diet, this week's hay making is going to provide us with enough hay to feed our Derbyshire donkeys for a whole year, as we are expecting to make around 160 bales!
We currently have 37 donkeys and one horse in our care too so we're expecting a long week ahead of us... but it is very much worth the effort and we hope you can join us on our next open day, Sunday 4th July, to see our work first hand.
Right, we better get hay making!
