Sadly after reaching the grand old age of 50 earlier this year we have had to say a fond farewell to Tessa our famous elderly donkey.
She has done amazingly well over the years that she has been with us at the Sanctuary but unfortunately she was becoming very uncomfortable due to her chronic arthritis.
She was such a gentle donkey and a pleasure to have around.
She had been on an anti-inflammatory drug to treat this for the past two years, but the wear and tear over the years had taken its toll and it was decided to say good night for the final time.
It is always a heart breaking decision for us and we work very closely with our vets to make sure that we make the right decision at the right time for our donkeys.
Tessa arrived at The Donkey Sanctuary in 1985. She has since spent 30 years living happily on our farms with various donkey friends. With the average UK donkey life expectancy at 27, Tessa outlived many of her peers here at The Donkey Sanctuary.
She was such a gentle donkey and a pleasure to have around. We will all miss Tessa so much at Trow Farm as I’m sure her adoring fans across the globe will too.
