Donkeys and mules need lots of mental stimulation! It is always a good idea to give your equines something to chew and play with, or a way to keep their day to day as versatile as possible, and this Guardian Home has figured out the perfect way to keep their cheeky chaps entertained!
Swinford the mule and his best friends, donkeys Theo and Tommy live in Gloucestershire where their brilliant Guardian has a fabulous track and wood free ranging system which keeps them all fit and active, as well as giving them alternative foraging other than grass.
Donkeys and mules love fibrous and woody food which is their natural source of nutrition in Africa and Asia where they originate from. Safe shrubs and trees include hazel, ash, hawthorn, apple, limited willow, lime, poplar and gorse. This trio love extra stimulation, Tommy and Theo are drive and agility donkeys, and Swinford is the class clown!
Their favourite pastime is to hang over the gate onto the lane where they attract the attention of all passers-by, who are all more than happy to oblige with a chat and scratch, however all the locals know they mustn’t feed them. But Swinford is very hard to resist, and loves to pose for photographs putting on his best smile.
Could you resist him, I can’t! Cuddles all round at every visit. For more information on donkey enrichment you can download our Donkey Care Handbook from The Donkey Sanctuary website.
