Dudley came to the holding base in North Scotland a few months ago. He was a 6 year old stallion and had minimal handling. He had lived on his own since being bought as a surprise birthday present at 8 months old.
Dudley presented us with quite challenging behaviour, being quite territorial, biting, and rearing. We soon nicknamed him "Deadly Dudley" as he bit first and asked questions later.
After discussion with Ben Hart, our Behaviour Trainer, we set about using distraction techniques.
We soon found Dudley loves toys, especially a boredom ball which holds some pony nuts. He is so adept at getting the nuts out and loves chasing the ball around the barn. His other favourite toy is a bollard and will spend lots of time in the paddock carrying it around at full gallop.
Dudley is now good with the farrier, and was excellent with having his dental treatment. He will also stand nicely to have his morning groom.
He still has more behaviour training requirements but Dudley is full of fun and is now enjoying the company of both other donkeys and humans.
Hopefully in the future Dudley will be able to have a special friend and go on to a loving home.
