My name is Warren and I’m a finalist at Warwick University reading Classics and I’ve chosen to run the London Marathon for The Donkey Sanctuary as I am a strong supporter of their work helping donkeys who have suffered. Donkeys are such sweet animals so why would anyone want to harm them?
I’m very excited to be running the London Marathon. This will be my first ever marathon and I know it will be difficult, but I am using the fact that there are so many supporters to motivate me. The marathon will give me a solid target for the year and will help me focus on my studies.
I will be running a half marathon on Sunday 12th October 2012, have been in training all summer. It’s been difficult at times, but rewarding when completed. After this I will be gradually increasing my mileage per week following the training programme by Hal Higdon - a famous long-distance runner from America. It involves six days of cardio training a week with four weight sessions included. It’s a lot of work but I am looking forward to it!
To raise funds throughout the year, I’m planning street collections in Christchurch, Leamington Spa and on Warwick University campus. In December, I will be playing piano in Sainsbury’s in Christchurch and I have some other ideas for fundraisers at university which are currently in the pipeline.
I’m looking forward to the next few months of training and fundraising. I hope you’ll be looking forward to hearing about it!
