In anticipation of a momentous anniversary on the 25 November 2015, we held an extra special Saturday Club last weekend to celebrate a remarkable 40 years of donkey assisted therapy at Sidmouth.
We had a fantastic turn out to help us celebrate this amazing milestone, with a fully booked morning of families and children visiting the Centre to access the Saturday Club donkey assisted therapy sessions.
Decorated throughout, the Centre was dressed with all things Ruby, from balloons to bunting. Children attending the day joined in with the party themed sessions, and even got to take home a slice of the delicious cake we had made to mark the occasion in their very own party bags.
They also took part in an arts and crafts creative station, where they made special 40th anniversary souvenirs to take home as keepsakes. The atmosphere throughout was great, and it was a lovely way to mark such an important anniversary.
It was back in 1975 when Dr Svendsen first saw her dream of bringing together children with additional needs and donkey become a reality when she founded The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust.
Since that moment her vision only grew, shaping the way to where we are today, four decades on, and working not only in the UK but also overseas. Donkey assisted therapy has given happiness and enjoyment to the lives of so many over the years, and all those involved feel extremely proud to celebrate such a significant moment in its history.
To mark this incredible journey we have put together a special timeline display outside the arena area of the Centre, so if you are popping by please stop by to take a look.
The official anniversary falls next Wednesday and we hope you will join us all in celebrating 40 years of donkey assisted therapy. Here’s to 40 more!
