The Adoptions Supporter Services team deal with the day to day enquiries of The Donkey Sanctuary’s Adoption Donkeys and the supporter adoption maintenance.
With the recent reveal of three new Adoption Donkeys, we got out to spend some one on one time with the new donkeys we will be representing. Having new additions to the Adoption Scheme fills our supporters with great excitement.
Who can blame them really? Our adoption scheme is the perfect way to get your daily dose of donkey capers, and you'll be part of our donkeys' lives forever.
We are a busy team with constant pressures but we always treat our supporters as individuals and take time to listen to their requirements and their stories. I think one of the best aspects of working in the Adoptions team is the amount of supporter contact.
Not a day goes by without hearing some wonderful memories shared by supporters of donkeys they have known from their childhood or of visits to one of our centres. It is also lovely that many supporters remember Dr Svendsen and mention they met her and what an amazing lady she was.
It is lovely to be involved in a small part of our supporters' celebrations as we provide adoption gifts as birthday and wedding presents, also for retirement gifts and thank you tokens. It is also our privilege to speak to friends and relatives of loved ones who have passed away and in their memory would like to adopt a long-eared friend.
We often have supporters call us for updates on donkeys that are no longer on the scheme but are living happy retirements out of the limelight and we can usually answer any questions or concerns they have as we liaise with other departments including Vets and the DAT centres or Farms.
We always remember that it is with the kindness, generosity and love for our adoption donkeys by our loyal supporters that we can help all the donkeys and mules in our care.
We are lucky enough to have lots of donkey cuddles, and get to meet all the Sidmouth adoption donkeys so we can let supporters know what they have been doing and how they are.
We love to see all the wonderful pictures that our young supporters send us and enjoy reading the birthday and Christmas cards our adopters send each year.
Supporters often telephone or write to us to let us know that they are visiting their special friends and we help by offering advice on anything from how to find us to where to stay, times of the Meet The Groom Sessions or what treats they can bring for all the donkeys. We then hear how their visit went as supporters often call us with updates and it is rewarding to hear what an impact this has made by being able to visit their chosen donkey.
Christmas is a very busy period for the team and we are always overwhelmed with support at this time. The feedback we receive from many supporters saying that the gift of a donkey made their Christmas is not only rewarding but makes all the long hours and hard work processing adoptions worthwhile.
Working within this team is such a rewarding role, as we get to see the impact our wonderful donkeys have on our caring supporters. It is so wonderful to know that we can continue to do all the great work here at The Donkey Sanctuary thanks to this kindness.
