Hello there. My name is Emma and I’m from Suffolk. I am taking part in the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 9 April in memory of my grandparents, Peggy and Geoff Belden. I will be running to raise money for The Donkey Sanctuary because this charity was close to my grandparents’ hearts.
One of my fondest childhood memories was going away on holiday with my grandma and grandad and them taking me for donkey rides along the beach. Both my grandparents played a huge part in my upbringing and taking part in this marathon to help raise awareness and funds for a charity close to their hearts and mine is my way of saying thank you to them.
Many people forget that these beautiful animals need help due to suffering, cruelty and neglect, especially as they come to the end of their working lives. They feel pain just like us but are unable to ask for help and are often forgotten about.
I feel so proud and privileged to be able to wear The Donkey Sanctuary running vest and raise awareness of this fantastic charity as I take on this epic challenge in memory of my grandparents. Taking part in this marathon, which is my first, is the biggest and hardest thing I’ve ever dreamt of doing so I really do need all the support I can get. Please help me to help these adorable animals by sponsoring me. Any donation, no matter how big or small, will be greatly appreciated.
