It’s not every day that we are treated to a celebrity visit but last week was very special, as we received a visit from not one but two little celebrities; Hope and Amber Austwick, the stars of the book ‘Amber’s Donkey’!
On Tuesday 2 August the Austwick family kicked off the first leg of Amber’s official book signing tour, in which they plan to visit all of the Donkey Assisted Therapy Centres. They got to share their story with other families, as well as meeting some supporters who already had copies of the book and brought them in specially to get them signed by Amber herself. As Amber announced shortly after arriving ‘Do you know, me and Shocks are famous?’ we knew we would be in for an entertaining day.
The girls were the ultimate professionals, taking time away from playing to speak to every visitor, always treating them to lovely manners and a beaming smile and they even brought a stamp of Shocks the donkey’s hoof print, so that he was included in the book signing, as they told us they couldn’t actually bring the real Shocks with them! Amber and Hope also joined in one of our holiday ‘drop in’ sessions and spent the day racing around the play area, a far cry from the tiny, very poorly premature babies pictured in their book. They enjoyed making new friends, both with the other children and some of the Sidmouth donkeys, including one called Socs, who really enjoyed some extra cuddles. Shhh, don’t tell Shocks!
Many thanks to the Austwick family for sharing your story with the Sidmouth team.
