It is always extremely heart-warming to see two donkeys arrive at their new foster home knowing that they will have all the individual care and love of their foster owners but for Hettie and Bullseye it was extra special as their new home is Holmesdale Manor Nursery.
On the day the donkeys were being delivered there was great excitement among the children, even the torrential downpour couldn’t dampen their enthusiasm.
They watched from the windows of the nursery as the lorry reversed up the driveway and Hettie and Bullseye emerged and were led up to their new field and lovely warm shelter where they met their new friend Rodney, the Shetland pony who lives in the adjoining field.
Hettie and Bullseye are going to have a wonderful life with lots of love
Hettie and Bullseye are two young and very gentle donkeys who love human company. From their field, they can see the play area and hear the children laughing; there is always a lot going on.
For the first few weeks, they will be left to get used to their new surroundings. Once they have settled in Hettie and Bullseye will become an active part of the nursery.
The older children will help with their day-to-day care (closely supervised by the experienced staff), such as giving them a daily brush and picking out their feet.
The children will learn the importance of keeping the shelter clean with plenty of bedding so the donkeys can get out of the rain and wind as well as making sure they always have a full bucket of fresh water.
Hettie and Bullseye are going to have a wonderful life with lots of love and attention, the children are not only going to learn all about donkeys but also experience the remarkable bond between themselves and two very special donkeys.
