The International Team has had a wonderful few days here at The Donkey Sanctuary catching up with old friends and making new ones.
The Donkey Sanctuary’s new strategy recognises that we can only reach the 50 million donkeys and mules in the world by developing a worldwide network for donkey welfare. Because so many of our partner organisations attended the 7th International Colloquium on Working Equids in London last week, we made the most of their presence in the UK and have been lucky enough to play host to 41 of our international partners here at The Donkey Sanctuary. These included representatives from our core countries, along with many of our small-grant projects.
Spanning 13 countries, each with its own culture, experiences and challenges, we have shared stories, learnt from one another and, most importantly, knitted together The Donkey Sanctuary’s worldwide network to take forward our new strategy. Our packed programme also included tours of the Sanctuary and presentations based on the theme of “What makes a good sanctuary?” Employees at The Donkey Sanctuary also joined us for lunch breaks to find out more about the international work going on.
By creating links of friendship and professional networks, together we can be more effective in tackling global donkey welfare.
All in all, it’s been great fun – as well as serving as an important step forward in improving global donkey welfare.
