Meet Eli a two year old donkey with a huge personality who had been hand reared in his previous home. He is so strong willed, even from day one he insisted that he did not need his mum to look after him. This little fella manages to melt the hearts of everyone who comes into contact with him!
Eli’s family made the extremely difficult decision to relinquish him into our care last year when he became too boisterous to live with one of the elderly donkeys he shared his home with.
Imagine having saved this little chap's life by hand rearing him, all the night feeds and endless days of worry to then have to face a very difficult decision and do what is right, not for yourself, but for the donkeys. What a brave thing to have done, sending him to us.
The lovely thing is we are in regular contact with Eli’s family and we have exchanged pictures and stories.
His owner is glad to hear how well he is settling in and we have enjoyed looking at these pictures of where he used to live. How cute is the picture of him and the kuni kuni pig!
We are so delighted that Eli has come to live at Paccombe Farm. Although he’s extremely cheeky and does whatever he wants, he has been a great help to us.
Just as Eli was being relinquished to us so was another slip of a donkey called Baxter, who is the complete opposite of Eli.
Baxter, it seems, has had very little or no handling at all before coming here and was extremely timid. He and Eli became friends from the start. Eli has been fantastic at showing Baxter that us humans are fun… especially if you chase us around the barn!
Baxter is coming on in leaps and bounds and it is all thanks to the wonderful Eli.
