It's not often that people buy a particular house specifically to have two donkeys but that is exactly what Justine and Richard did in order to fulfil a lifetime's dream! After two years of looking at houses they came across their current property. Which, as they said, was not the house they would have bought but it did have a lovely little paddock and room to build a stable block.
To make absolutely sure that The Donkey Sanctuary would consider them as potential foster owners, I was asked to visit early this year to give advice and assess its suitability. Both were determined to help us in our work by fostering and did not want to go out and buy donkeys.
On meeting Justine and Richard I had absolutely no doubt that any donkeys lucky enough to join them would have the best of everything. And so they bought the house and began the fostering process, which involved attending a basic donkey care course and a final home inspection once they had moved in, completed the donkey accommodation and fencing. This took precedence over the needs of the house.
As you will see from the attached photos, Grace and Goldie have now joined them in Norfolk. Justine and Richard have anticipated this day for so long they were almost overwhelmed when they saw their two beautiful girls. Justine simply stood and looked at them saying "I am in love already"!
Everything has been thought of to provide a happy, safe, comfortable and stimulating environment for them, including a ball hanging in a haynet to play with, apples on strings, wellie boots and a ball. There is even talk of a Neigh Station! Which I must admit to never having heard of but apparently it is a mirror with interesting things surrounding it for them to play with, such as a bolt which can be opened and hanging toys.
A small trailer has also been purchased so that Grace and Goldie can be taken to various places for interesting walks. This, folk, is Donkey Heaven.
So no wonder that these two delightful little donkeys took a look around, inspected their paddock and stable area, cuddled Richard and Justine and settled down in their beautifully bedded stable as if they intended to stay for donkeys' years!
