How are you all, pals?! I've loved reading all of your wonderful comments on my blogs! As well as introducing you to my friend last week called Dot I would like to let you all know about another friend of mine called big Tom the horse. We are very different in size as you can see but we are really good friends.
I love spending time with Tom, especially on a windy day as he makes a very good wind break!
Today our human friend Steven the farrier visited us. I love it when it’s our turn for the farrier because we get a manicure, pedicure, and a comb over all in one!
Today, I stood really close to my friend Tom, and we both picked up a foot each at the same time for a photograph because we thought that all you fans would like to see the difference in our hoof sizes.
As you can imagine, Tom has huge feet. They are like saucepans compared to my hooves which are very small. It takes Steven much longer to trim Tom’s feet than my feet because there is much more hoof to trim off.
During a trim, the farrier will lift one foot at a time, and he will use a special tool called a hoof knife to pick out underneath of our hoofs. We have sensitive bits under our hooves that are called frogs, so the farrier is always careful to treat that bit with care. Next, he will use special hoof cutters to gently trim off our excess nail. This doesn’t hurt at all. I hear it is the same for humans. And the final bit for the farrier to do is to use a rasp. This is used to file around the edge of our hooves to make sure they are level and smooth.
I told Tom that now I am a celebrity that my facebook fans who follow my blogs are going to come and visit me on our Mule Day and during Donkey Week in May. Tom asked if he can meet you all as well but I told him to get in the queue as I will be in the front doing the meeting and greeting due to my new celebrity status.
Our 2 legged grooms bought us some beautiful Turkish head collars when they went on holiday so we shall be wearing them when we meet and greet you all as we like to wear them on special occasions!
See you soon Donkey Weekers :-)
