Last week I got to work with the team at Slade House Farm where I met two donkeys who couldn’t be any more different from each other!
I would like to introduce you to Cobus and Noah. Both donkeys live at Buffalo Barn, whilst Cobus lives in Little Buff with the bad breathers group, Noah lives next door in the Poitou group.
Cobus is a miniature donkey who was imported from Holland in 1998 and was relinquished to the Sanctuary in 2006 to secure his future.
At 20 years old Cobus is a sweet little chap with a cheeky character. He only stands at 8hh and weighs in at a tiny 61kg!
Noah, on the other hand, weighs in at a massive 383kg and stands at 14.3hh!
Noah is 12 years old and has been at the Sanctuary since 2011. He was relinquished to the Sanctuary as his excitable behaviour towards the mares and foals in his previous home became too much for the owners to cope with! He loves attention and his favourite thing is to have his ears scratched.
Noah is a Poitou donkey, which is a breed that originates from the Poitou region of France and is one of the largest donkey breeds. They have characteristic long shaggy coats, and were used to produce large working mules.
Noah and Cobus have got a secure future with us at the Sanctuary and will live out the rest of their days here with the dedicated, experienced team of staff catering to their every need!
If you would like to go and see Noah and Cobus, they can be found on ‘Walk C’ living at Buffalo Barn.
