Did you like reading about Tessa... the oldest resident donkey at Trow Farm? Well, we think you'll like to read about our own lovely oldie too here at Town Barton Farm! Say hello to Lottie who will be celebrating her 45th birthday in June. She's such a beautiful mischievous donkey who doesn’t act her age at all.
Lottie came into our care 14 years ago and has spent all that time living on this farm. Sadly she has lost two of her donkey friends over the years but Pepe (aged 34) is still with us, although himself getting on in years.
Being the eldest donkey, Lottie feels it necessary to accompany the vet around on his visits to just check that everything is in order, which is quite amusing to watch.
She is also the only donkey that can open the metal gates here on the farm by using her nose to flip up the latch and then opens the bolt with her teeth. Then she lets all the donkeys out. We have had to put chains round all the gates in her area to stop the great donkey escape!
Looking at our records, Lottie was the 7,753rd donkey to arrive through our gates. That record now shows the latest donkey arriving into our care is the 12,235th - that's a lot of donkeys and mules who have trotted into our lives over the years.
In fact, 15,500 donkeys and mules have been given a sanctuary for life and the Sanctuary currently has 5,300 donkeys and mules living on one of our farms here or in foster homes here in the UK or Europe.
