Many of you very kindly donated large bath towels to the Sanctuary over the winter months to help dry off the donkeys after they had been bathed. Well the towels have a never ending use!
The donkeys down at Paccombe Farm have been enjoying the sun a little too much this week just like Damson in the photo and some of the older ones are finding it difficult to regulate their body temperatures and have become a little overheated.
Damson is 15 years old and arrived in our care in 1998 with his mum, Plumb. We lost plumb a couple of years ago and since then Damson has been our little 'Pet'. He is pint sized and loves all the attention we give him!
With the donkeys needing help in cooling down, we came to their rescue by soaking the towels in cool water and placing them over the donkeys' backs.
Here's a set of photos showing Damson being given the 'cooling down' treatment and he just loved the whole process.
All our donkeys have access to shelter and barns where they can go in all types of weather. However, we can't tell them where to stand and some of the them have chosen to make the most of the sun!
Don't forget if you own donkeys yourselves, please make sure they're not suffering from the heat and remember to put sun cream on any bare patches of skin, especially white and skewbald coloured donkeys.
