I spoke to Chris Pile, manager at our Derbyshire Centre, this morning and he has managed to dig through the drifts of snow in the lane to get vehicles in and out. Today all three of his staff managed to get to work. Yesterday no-one could get in so he and his wife Georgie (who could not get to work) looked after the donkeys. He sent this photo earlier today - can you just see a donkey in the shelter?
Chris said "Although it is -15oC today the sun is shining so things somehow do not seem quite so bad. After digging the pathway to the field shelter the donkeys who are living there were fed, mucked out and fresh bedding was put in. We have just installed a water pipe trace-heating system that has been a godsend, all the water pipes to the donkey troughs have been kept flowing in spite of the very low temperatures."
Chris is very grateful for this new system as one of the most difficult jobs is making sure that the donkeys all have fresh water to drink.
