We are very fortunate to have work experience student Elle from Exmouth Community College with us this week. She's been a great help in the PR Office and has been working on press cutting analysis, photography, helping me with news releases and has just written this lovely blog about her experience so far.
Thanks for helping out Elle!
"Hi, I’m Elle and this week I’ve been doing work experience in the Press Office at The Donkey Sanctuary, which has been really fun and helpful. Ideally I would like to work in journalism or the media, so it’s shown me some of the work that newspapers and magazines do and how best to deal with national or local media. Unfortunately the week is going very fast, but it’s been really useful in helping me to think about my future and career.
So far I’ve been to see what goes on behind the scenes; Pam Taylor (PR assistant) took me to visit Woods Farm (which is closed to the public) and I took lots of photos in the beautiful sunshine with all the enthusiastic and lovely donkeys. I really enjoyed doing that as I am interested in photography, so being able to use the camera and be out with the donkeys was great fun, and they were all excellent models!
I also went to watch the grooms muck out and groom the donkeys, learn about their medication and also spent time with donkeys on the main site (Slade Farm) and other farms. This was great as it was fun to see the kind of work that’s done outside of the office, and to be more hands-on with the donkeys. Meeting all of the donkeys showed me that each donkey really does have its own personality and they are all different.
One of the other things I got to do whilst here was to go to Ashley the foal’s first birthday party and video it for the website and his Facebook fan page. It was great seeing him and his friends enjoying themselves as they munched on their specially made carrot cake!
Visiting The Donkey Sanctuary and spending time with the donkeys has been a lot of fun and very useful to me and my future. A very big thank you to all the staff who have helped me whilst I’ve been here!"
