Monday is now the best day of the week! No more long drives to work, no more in-trays of a thousand tasks to do, no more last-minute classes to cover when staff are off sick, no more irate parents stomping into school... all finished!
My husband Phil and I started working as Quality Time Volunteers (QTVs) at Slade House Farm at The Donkey Sanctuary a month ago - and we love it!
This week we spent much of the morning with 2 nervous donkeys - Coco and Poppy. The first time we met these two donkeys they were very skittish and fled as soon as we approached. Last week they let us touch them and scratch their ears and this week we groomed them out in the field. In fact, Poppy almost came to us when she saw us enter the field.. but she couldn't quite bring herself to go that far! Maybe next week?
Later we went to groom some of the donkeys in Little Buffalo Barn and it was here we met Derek - a little donkey who had recently arrived and was feeling a bit lost and lonely. Needless to say, he had lots of love and attention from us, and we look forward to seeing him again next week!
