Merlin is currently receiving veterinary care having been admitted into our hospital at the beginning of September 2009 after he had damaged his ear.
It turned out that he had been play fighting with one of the other donkeys in his group at Brookfield Farm when the accident occurred, which resulted in poor Merlin ending up with a wound to his ear.
Unfortunately for Merlin his ear became infected and he had to have minor surgery to remove some of the damaged cartilage. He now has to have his ear bathed and re-bandaged daily by the vet nurses. Sophia, one of the Sanctuary's vets, said that Merlin is doing really well, although he will be left with a permanent hole in his ear but once it has healed it wouldn't present him with any future problems. All being well, Merlin should soon be able to move back to Brookfield Farm and play with his friends again.
His best friend Figaro is with him for companionship and they have been at the hospital for four weeks now. Merlin's bandaged ear is generating lots of curiosity from the visitors wondering how the bandage stays on!
