Billy brayed loudly this morning when I arrived with his breakfast. He tucked into his special donkey nuts while I mucked him out. Sophie, one of the busy Sanctuary vets, called in on her way to work to check how things were progressing and took his temperature, checked the wounds on his back legs and gave him his antibiotic injection.
Billy is much happier and taking a keen interest in our cows and calves in the next field. Last night three of the calves slipped through the fence and came down to the barn to see Billy. Stephanie, my step-daughter, and I spent a frantic half an hour trying to get them to go back into the field with their mothers! We then had to do some hasty fencing to block up the hole they had made in the hedge.
Sophie was pleased with Billy but felt that she might have to come and see him on Saturday if the wound on his right hock had not improved.
