Billy has settled in and he brays loudly when he sees me walking down the track towards the barn. He had his treatment for fluke yesterday and because the medicine has a foul taste, we mixed it with some carrot and parsnip flavoured baby food in a drenching syringe so that I could syringe it onto the back of his tongue - he swallowed it quite happily!
He has to have an injection of antibiotics for another two days so he is a bit wary when I first go in with him.
I used the skills that Ben Hart, our Training Centre Manager, taught me about body language and stood passively until Billy came up to me. I was then able to slip the head collar on. I made sure I gave him plenty of fuss before and after the injection.
The wounds on his hocks are healing well and I am applying an antiseptic cream with fly repellent on the advice of Elena our vet.
All in all I am very pleased with Billy's progress.
