This week we had our annual opportunity to train the latest intake of RSPCA Officers in Training. Every year we train approximately 20 RSPCA officers so that they are better able to recognise the problems of donkeys in the field and they know where to get support if they ever have problems in donkey welfare or care within their jobs.
We spent the first part of the day looking at all the different aspects of donkey care and health and wellbeing of donkeys and then we give them some practical experience handling and catching donkeys. For many of them this is their first encounter with a donkey and without fail, they go away understanding more about donkeys and certainly most of them fall in love with donkeys while they are here. It is a great opportunity for two charities to work together and for us to be able to support the RSPCA in the work they do and be able to offer our specialist expertise to a national charity.
