We currently have an incredible 5,800 donkeys in our care. Come and meet some of the 500 living here at Slade Farm, they can’t wait to meet you!
Our donkeys love to meet new people and you can discover their unique characters and stories. Can you find the gentle giant Poitou donkeys, or our gorgeous adoption donkeys? Come and cuddle our main yard donkeys or spot a miniature in one of the fields!

Situated at the heart of the Sanctuary, you can find a delicious range of meals and snacks every day from 9am. Why not indulge in a satisfying cooked breakfast or try one of our many wonderful tasty treats, knowing that all profits are donated to The Donkey Sanctuary.
With stunning views and tailor made facilities, The Donkey Sanctuary has a licence for weddings and civil ceremonies and is the perfect place to celebrate your special day.
Discover the wildlife here at The Donkey Sanctuary in our unique Nature Centre. Tucked away in our wild wood you can discover facts about all the local wildlife.
There are plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife throughout the Sanctuary. Our new conservation programme aims to support our local wildlife. Look out for our new wild flower meadow and all the insects and birds that come with it. You can also keep up with our Wild Sanctuary news as our resident wildlife expert uncovers new and interesting things.
Can you find your way to the middle and back out again? Our amazing maze is bound to fox even the most experienced ‘mazers’!
Walking trails for everyone
No matter what your ability, there’s a trail for you. There are five beautiful walks around the Sanctuary grounds. We welcome walking groups to the Sanctuary – please contact our Visitors’ Centre on 01395 578222 ahead of your visit to organise dedicated parking facilities for your group. We’re also on the South West Coast Path – why not take a quick detour at Weston Mouth and come and see us?

There are lots of wonderful spots around the farm for you to stop and enjoy the scenery while picnicking, plus there’s a perfect picnic spot overlooking the adoption donkeys and the Donkey Assisted Therapy Centre.

Why not book one of our Guided Tours with our events team? You’ll hear the stories of how some of our donkeys came to be with us. While many of our donkeys have had a tough time in life, we’re sure you’ll feel uplifted when you hear a how well they are doing now.
Please feel free to bring your dog, our donkeys love meeting your four legged friends too.
We welcome cyclists to The Donkey Sanctuary. Access is via the National Cycle Network, Route 2.
