On the last few days, misty mornings have given way to sunny afternoons, which has really helped the bog out the front of the stables to start too dry out. Unfortunately I woke this morning to heavy rain and when I arrived to start working with the mules, the bog now resembles a pond!
About the mule
Millie the mule, what a show girl!
Hi there, it's Sara here. Everybody has heard the saying ‘Stubborn as a mule’, but having worked with these animals and read the history on them, I really think this saying needs to be re-addressed. It is by far a case of intelligence, meaning mules are able to out-smart people, leading the handler to think they are being ‘stubborn’.
More to mules than meets the eye
This morning I went out with Donkey Sanctuary events guru Claire Shapcott to visit some mules and find out what all the fuss is about.

Mules are coming on great

Paris finds a new home
Meet Paris, the lucky mule who has just been given a loving new home on the foster scheme! She went to live with her new owner and another mule on Friday 23rd September - a very emotional day for the grooms who have cared for her since her relinquishment in 2007.
Mules in harness
Meet two very special mules who go by the names of Stuff and Nonsense!
Stuff is a 16 year old mule who was relinquished into the Sanctuary in 2005 with her companion Nonsense, who is 20 years old. They were bought from a market as a ride and drive pair, but ended up with us when their owners lost their grazing.
