 The story of Mojino is particularly significant not only because the donkey was in need of our help but also because of how his rescue came about. Ivan received a call from Mojino’s owner who heard about us from the local health ministry. He had worked with the donkey all his life but was worried that he found Mojino lying down every morning and had great difficulty getting him up. He did not want his donkey to be purchased by Gypsies and end up at an abattoir and so called Ivan to ask if we would take his donkey in.
Of course Ivan agreed and went the very next day to see the donkey. On arrival Ivan found that Mojino was in a poor way and had quite bad sores from lying down for so long. With a little patience and a few food bribes Ivan brought Mojino back to El Refugio and after some time with Guillermo the Vet and Ivan Vazquez the farrier he is now making a good recovery and meeting new friends to spend his remaining years with.
Unfortunately Mojino died on the 19th of July because of severe heart problems and chronic arthritis. Thanks to our supporters, he spent his last years with plenty of T.L.C., as he deserved. |
