El Refugio del Burrito has an agreement with the Mijas Town-Hall to look after the conditions in which the donkeys at Mijas work as donkey-taxis. According to this agreement, El Refugio del Burrito makes two vet inspections a year, and has established different initiatives to provide a better service. One of these initiatives is the approval and  regulation of the donkey-taxis.

Rasping teethOur job at Mijas has just begun and we still have a lot of work to do and some difficulties to sort out. We are gaining the confidence of the muleteers and the owners who at first, didn't like our work, and believed we were their enemies. Their involvement is fundamental for us because without their co-operation our job at Mijas would be very difficult and the welfare of the donkeys could suffer. If you want to watch the inspections, please click here.

Your help is very important as well. It is possible that during your holidays you may find donkeys ready to be ridden by tourists. Before riding them, please read the following checklist we have written for you, so that you can decide if they are in fit state to carry out the task or if it is causing any distress to them.

If you see any Donkey Taxis, please fill this checklist and send it to us. Thank you.
