This lovely donkey, Paddy OD, arrived at the Sanctuary in a dreadful condition. His feet were appallingly overgrown and he had an untreated injury to his hind leg caused by a piece of wire that had become ingrown right down to the bone. It was painful for him to walk and he will now require our expert care and attention for the rest of his life.
A donkey's Christmas journey on the BBC
I was finishing dinner earlier today, quietly listening to BBC World, when I suddenly pricked my ears. I’d just heard the magical word : donkey ! What had BBC World to tell about donkeys?
Adopt a donkey
You are invited to adopt one of our donkeys for one year to help towards the costs of our charity. Our aim is to prevent the suffering of donkeys worldwide through the provision of high quality, professional advice, training and support on donkey welfare.
Helping to turn on the Christmas lights
For the third year in a row two donkeys from the Donkey Sanctuary in Liscarroll have helped turn on the Christmas lights at County Cork. In the past both Moses and Lucky Lady have gone along, but this year it was the turn of Finn to take Lucky Lady's place as she has now stepped down from her public duties.
Carol singing
On Wednesday it was our big day here at the Sanctuary. Over 100 children from Liscarroll National School came along and gave us a beautiful rendering of Christmas carols followed by a blessing by Father O’Mahony to the donkeys and all present.
Christmas crib
Each year we welcome the festive season to the Sanctuary with our Christmas Crib in one of the barns from Monday 8th December 2008 through to Tuesday 6th January 2009 and we will be announcing the winners of the Christmas raffle on Wednesday 10th December.
