Gem Newman, a volunteer at EST Sidmouth

Name:

Gem Newman

Status:

Retired

Centre:

EST Sidmouth

When do you help?

Helps out on Wednesdays.

What do you do to help?

I help support EST's work generally - this includes chatting to the children whilst they are riding and I love to make them feel welcome; it is a very satisfying way to spend one of my days.

Do you enjoy this voluntary work?

I have the best of both worlds of working with children and donkeys. It is rewarding to see the children respond and make personal progress.

Does one particular incident stick in your mind as being special?

There is one little boy who recognises me each time and that feels special.

Our Sidmouth Centre is supported by around 26 volunteers. They are the first line givers of encouragement and assistance in the lesson. In short, they are invaluable - without them the centres could not function.

If you can spare a day, or even half a day, and would like to become a volunteer at Sidmouth, please contact our Principal, Lauriel Harris.
