Visiting the CentresEST Manchester

Photo of EST ManchesterOur Centre in Manchester was opened on Monday 16 August 2004. It is situated in Debdale Park and is a focus of the community, having been built near to the residential area of Abbey Hey.

Around 150 children with special needs and disabilities from 20 local schools in the city and surrounding areas benefit from donkey-riding therapy at this Centre each week.

Emma Morris is one of the riding instructors at this Centre. She explains how some of the children with a low self esteem and lack of confidence benefit from their visits.

"You can see the confidence rising as the weeks go on and by the end of term, the children are happy and relaxed. For some, they find coming here is almost a sanctuary for them. There is one little girl who wouldn't speak or smile when she first started coming, but now she is all smiles and she has a good chat while she is in contact with the donkey. She plays in the play room and gets to interact with other children too."

How to Find Us

EST Manchester is situated at the bottom of Green Fold, off Abbey Hey Lane at the Northern entrance to Debdale Park (there is no vehicle access from the Hyde Road entrance to the park). From the M60 take junction 23 and follow the A635 (Ashton Old Road) toward Manchester. Continue for 1.5 miles passing St Anne's Catholic Church on the right hand side. After a further 1/2 mile take a left turn opposite St Clement's Church into Capital Road. Take the 3rd left (immediately after bridge by corner shop) into Abbey Hey Lane. A short way past the Hamlet Public House take the left turn into Green Fold. The Centre is straight ahead over the bridge and to the right.
