The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth is hosting a series of events to keep children amused and families entertained over the summer holidays.
On offer all day every day until 2nd September is a summer holiday hunt around the grounds of the charity’s headquarters. Families are invited to join in the search for ten hidden, wooden Olympic torches around the Sanctuary and meet the resident donkeys who have Olympic connections.
There are also clues hidden around the Sanctuary’s woodland and meadow areas as part of the Nature Trail Hunt waiting to be discovered throughout the summer holidays.
One donkey that only shows his face on special occasions is Lucky, the charity’s mascot. He will be making guest appearances at Teddy Bears Picnics on 2nd, 16th and 30th August between 12 – 2pm, where visitors will also have the chance to meet some of his real donkey friends. Soft drinks are provided for all picnic-goers, who can either bring their own picnic lunch or purchase a picnic bag from the onsite Hayloft Restaurant.
As well as providing great entertainment for the school summer holidays, money raised from these events will help to fund the worldwide work of The Donkey Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is open 365 days a year with free admission and parking, and visitors are always welcome to come along to meet the resident donkeys and find out more about the charity.
