With Valentine’s Day falling in half term this year, The Donkey Sanctuary will be hosting a week of events starting Saturday 11th February for families who love donkeys and the countryside at our headquarters here in Sidmouth, Devon.

Every day, families can take part in:

• a Valentine-themed treasure hunt, searching for heart-shaped clues around the sanctuary
• making a love bug or greetings card for their favourite donkey. A special donkey delivery will be made each day, to distribute the cards to the grooms who look after the donkeys, and the top donkey recipients will be charted on the Donkey Valentine’s Vine!
• The Love Week craft activities will be available during each day of the half-term holidays, with donations towards the cost of materials greatly appreciated.

On Valentine’s Day itself – we’ve developed a nest box kit so people can make a very special home for birds, complete with a bird fact sheet. February the 14th is regarded as the last day of the year you can put up a nest box and expect that it is used the same spring so it’s the perfect time to come along and put your craft skills to the test.
