Jan's India Trek in aid of donkey charity and in-memory of best friend

India Trek - Helping donkeys

Jan Broom, a Personal Assistant from Birmingham needs local support to raise funds for her up and coming sponsored trek to the Indian Himalayas this May, in aid of international animal welfare charity The Donkey Sanctuary, and in memory of her special friend.

Jan is hosting a Charity Disco on Saturday 26th February 2011 from 7.30pm at Moseley All Services Club in Moseley.

Jan is taking part in the 14 day trip to India, one of 29 project countries The Donkey Sanctuary operates in and the trek, which has a minimum sponsorship of £2,500, will help fund its work overseas to alleviate the suffering of sick and injured working donkeys.

The trek will lead Jan and 10 other walkers through the spectacular Dhauladhar range, and finishes with a visit to the charity’s Ahmedabad project to see the veterinary clinic and mobile teams in action.

Jan says “My unique friend Linda could not resist a donkey... she had compassion for the lives of hard working donkeys and used to say that one day she would leave all her money to help them, but this did not happen because she suddenly died aged 47. It's because of her love for donkeys that I became a supporter of The Donkey Sanctuary. I have always wanted to do something special in Linda’s memory and this is the year that I will do it.

“Last year I read the awful story about the donkey who was made to parasail as a publicity stunt in Russia and it's because of this that I thought of Linda and made up my mind that it's time to do something more for deserving donkeys because this is what she wanted.

So I am determined to raise the funds to make it to India and donate a huge amount of money to the The Donkey Sanctuary who help donkeys in distress all over the world. A dose of acute mountain sickness will be well worth it for donkeys and their families who work endlessly in difficult conditions to benefit.”

Jan has sponsor forms at Carrefour Health & Fitness Club in Maypole, can be contacted on 07749 084295, and has a dedicated webpage on the online charity fundraising platform JustGiving, where donations can be made securely with confidence at: http://www.justgiving.com/Janice-Broom
