Last week we told you about an old donkey friend we have known for many years, but this week we would like to introduce you to a young donkey we have only recently met. He couldn't be more different from Wogan - not better though, just different!
Last week we told you about an old donkey friend we have known for many years, but this week we would like to introduce you to a young donkey we have only recently met. He couldn't be more different from Wogan - not better though, just different!
He stood out from the crowd from the start for many reasons. He is very young, extremely handsome and was very friendly and confident, even though he had only just arrived at the East Axnoller Farm the day before we met him. He also has a very unusual name and because he is a little donkey from Ireland this may account for the very different name we found on his collar - Daithi. In Gaelic it probably means something very special. We do hope so, and we would love to know if anyone out there knows this name, how to pronounce it, and what it means. In the meantime we have nicknamed him "Brian", because it's easier to say and makes us smile.
For the first few weeks Brian and nine other newcomers lived as a small separate group before joining the main group of younger donkeys on the farm. It was in those early days that we were able to get to know them quite well and in particular Brian, as he very much wanted to get to know us and be friends. He always appeared on the scene very quickly, always curious to see what we were up to, and wanting us to give him some special time. We know this is a friendship which will grow and grow, and we look forward to getting to know more of his little ways and personality.
We didn't see Brian for a few weeks after he and his companions joined the main group here, but we knew they were enjoying lots of warm sunshine on their backs while exploring their beautiful surroundings and making new friends. However, this week Brian was in the barn when we went out to check his group. We both immediately recognised him, even though he had managed to lose his collar! He came over to greet us as soon as we entered and it was good to see him looking so well, happy and contented in his new home at East Axnoller.
We spent the next half-hour giving him some quality time, lots of cuddles and grooming along with his new friend, a lovely quiet donkey called Colin, and thereby hangs another tale!
At the end of the day we went home with big smiles on our faces having met up with our new friend Brian again.
