Drinking water helping donkeys in need

In October 2008, the Sanctuary installed a water trough at the entrance to a brick kiln (known as a 'bhatta' in the Hindi language) at Gurgaon, the sixth largest city in the Indian state of Haryana, where donkeys work tirelessly all day.

Before the trough was provided, the animals had only a small container to drink from holding very little water from a tap that was not only used by the donkeys, but also by the donkey owners, workers in the brick kiln and villagers for their domestic use, leaving very little space for the donkeys to drink.

With very little water, the donkeys suffered from dehydration making them more susceptible to developing sores because their skin was not so mobile and cushioned.

Now, they can take their time to drink as much as each donkey needs as well as having access to water throughout their working day.
