A donkey who was living with extremely long hooves in Northern Ireland is now treading comfortably in the safety of a loving new home.

Eeyore was brought to the attention of Donkey Welfare Adviser Jane Bruce after she was contacted by a local council for assistance.

When Jane arrived at Eeyore’s location, she observed he was wary of her presence and reluctant to be caught. His hooves were very long, and he appeared uncomfortable on his feet.

Jane says: “Eeyore had a kind eye and heart but needed to build up his confidence and trust in humans again.

“With some planning and helpful assistance, he was eventually caught and referred to a vet and farrier for assessment.”

Thankfully, x-rays carried out on Eeyore’s feet revealed no significant or lasting damage, and they were carefully trimmed down to make him more comfortable.

Jane adds: “After a while, his health improved and his character began to shine through. He started to enjoy the daily attention and handling that he gone for so long without.”

Eeyore’s recovery progressed so well, he was soon deemed eligible for rehoming – and it wasn’t long before he was matched with a Donkey Guardian home.

We are delighted to report that Eeyore is thriving in his new home and is living his best life with some new donkey companions.
